The Ronald McDonald House® opened in 1984 in Lexington, Kentucky with the mission of keeping families close to their sick children and the medical care they need. We were built on the idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child – not where they can afford to stay, get their next meal, do their laundry, or lay their head at night to rest. Guests calling our House their home away from home benefit from all of these services and moreover, stability in a time where life is anything but predictable.
More recently, Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Bluegrass (RMHC) expanded our Hospital Programs inside UK HealthCare’s Kentucky Children’s Hospital. Steps away from a child’s bedside, the Family Room provide a moment to recharge and refresh – so family members can be strong for their children.
In order to increase service to even more families in-need, RMHC has recently expanded our services to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Neonatal Abstinence Care Unit (NACU) as well as launched the Care Cart program, enabling us to extend many of the amenities of our Ronald McDonald Family Room to parents, caregivers and the patients who are being faced with long days of tests, procedures and appointments.
To further support the health needs of our neighbors, we have the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® program – which offers Eastern Kentucky’s children free professional dental services and education aboard a state-of-the-art mobile clinic.
Today, our 3 Core Programs are thriving and always prepared to remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing in the Bluegrass. The House serves nearly 500 families per year, the Family Room programs provide respite for over 10,000 people annually, and the Care Mobile has seen pediatric dental decay rates fall by 23%!
All programs and services are free of charge to families and children.
Our House is located at 1300 Sports Center Drive Lexington, KY 40502.
