House Volunteers
As a volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Charities® of the Bluegrass you have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of our families! All volunteers must be 18 years or older, unless accompanied by an adult.
Consider how your skill-set might fit into some of the regular, weekly volunteer opportunities that may be available.
Please consider carefully whether the commitments of these opportunities will fit your schedule or other life commitments. Our volunteer application process is comprehensive; we request an application, interview, and background check. We then offer an orientation and training. All in House volunteers must be COVID vaccinated & receive annual flu shots for the health & safety of the guest families we serve.

House Volunteer
Energetic, customer service focused volunteers are vital to our Home. House volunteers perform a variety of duties including answering the phone, sorting donations, greeting visitors, conducting House tours, housekeeping, cleaning and preparing rooms for incoming guests. Volunteers usually work one, three-hour shift per week or every other week. Volunteer shifts are available daily between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
To apply as a Ronald McDonald House volunteer, please fill out this application.
Van Driver
The Ronald McDonald House transports families to and from area hospitals four times per day using the Ronald McDonald House van. A current driver’s license is required and driving records will be checked on all prospective van drivers. Van drivers are asked to commit to at least one shift per month.
To apply as a Van Driver, please fill out this application.
For those volunteers who would like to get involved, but cannot commit to weekly service – consider contributing your skills in an occasional volunteer capacity.
Groups are limited to 8 volunteers per group, all of whom must be COVID vaccinated for the health & safety of the guest families we serve.
Service Hours
Occasional one-time volunteer opportunities are also available. Perfect for students, community service projects, and groups employed by service minded organizations this volunteer experience demonstrates that many hands make light work.
A home for 21 families demands continuous clean-up, which is easy if many join together to tackle the jobs. Come in to help clean out kitchen cupboards, disinfect the playroom, tidy up storage areas, dust the bookshelves, organize the linen closet and more! Household chores can be fun when done in cooperation with friends, in an environment which appreciates your visit. Chore groups are scheduled based on House needs and availability, groups of 10 or less are preferred.
Due to the nature of our House and the families that we serve, we are unable to provide service hours for court required incidents.

Prefer to work from home?
If you are interested in helping families staying at Ronald McDonald House or one of our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, but don’t have an extended amount of time available to visit the House or the hospital, are too young, or have a group that is too large to accommodate, we have plenty of suggestions for things that you can work on from your very own home.
