For parents and other caregivers who are reluctant to leave their child, even for just a moment, the bright and cheerful Care Carts are a welcomed sight. The friendly face of the volunteer behind the Carts reminds families at Galisano Children’s at UK that RMHC of the Bluegrass and our partners are there to provide comfort during a very difficult time. These carts are stocked with snacks, toys, activity books and specialty items for children undergoing chemotherapy and other specialized treatments, all at no cost to the children and their family.

Launched in May 2019, the Care Carts have served over 6,000 patient families with children receiving treatment at:

  • DanceBlue Hematology/Oncology Clinic
  • Pediatric Specialty Clinic
  • Diagnostic and Infusion Clinic
  • Pediatric Overflow Unit
  • KCH Richmond Road,
  • and 6 East.
In 2024,

we launched 2 new Care Carts (KCH Richmond Road Specialty Clinic, KCH Pediatric Extended Recovery Unit) and implemented a Care Cart that visits KCH inpatient units (non-intensive care), antepartum, postpartum, and mother-baby units once a week, expanding access to and awareness of RMHC programs.

we hired a part-time Care Cart Coordinator and increased service to families and children by 287%.

We’re proud to shine a light on one of our most dedicated corporate partners: Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. From generous annual giving to hands-on volunteerism and in-kind support, the Elliot team continues to show up for the families we serve in big ways. Whether it’s collecting essential wish list items or spending time volunteering at the House, their commitment is felt throughout our mission.

In 2025, they took their support one step further by sponsoring one of our newest rounding Care Carts inside Galisano Children’s at UK. This co-branded cart is thoughtfully stocked with McCafé coffee, snacks, treats, and comforting items like Elliot bucket trucks and hard hat stress balls, offering a much-needed moment of relief for families staying at their child’s bedside.
